The Tiger-Cats are just 2 days away from their 2nd game at their new home. Tim Hortons Field will once again be limited to 18-thousand capacity for Sunday’s game against the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Upper deck, west side is still not ready. But is the team ready?
In week one, the Roughriders handed Hamilton their worst loss of the season at least, in terms of the devastating 21-point differential. Zach Collaros says he isn’t interested in avenging that loss, because he knows the Ticats just weren’t good enough to win that one: “A lot of that was due to Saskatchewan. They’re a very good football team. We all know that, they have a great record so that hasn’t been brought up. We watched the film. It was a terrible film to watch again, but we’re excited for another opportunity against them for sure.”
And, with or without Darian Durant’s big arm behind centre, the Ticats believe the Riders’ running game will be a focal point of their offense.
Orlondo Steinauer, Defensive Co-ordinator: “Late in the 4th quarter, they don’t just turn it into a passing game, it’s a run game for them. They’ll run you to the edges with their quick backs and pound you with Messam. So they’ve got a little 1, 2 attack. But we’re looking forward to it.”
On offense, both C.J. Gable and Brandon Banks will be out this week and DB Delvin Breaux, who tweaked his ankle in practice yesterday, remains a question mark.
Look for newly-signed defensive lineman Linden Gaydosh to get some playing time as well as Terrell Sinkfield, a speedy receiver who clocked a 4.19 second, 40 yard dash at a pro-day in Minnesota last year. He was passed-up by 4 NFL teams, and the Argos. But in Hamilton he’ll also be taking-over the kick return duties.
Terrell Sinkfield just signed with the Cats last week: “Knowing that they want me, need me, using me in the ways that best suit me is exciting and gives me a bit more confidence that they’re using me in the right ways.”
