Four people have been arrested and a fifth is still wanted by police following a robbery in Niagara Falls.

Police were called to a hotel in the area of Beaverdams Rd. and Kalar Rd. around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators learned three men had forced their way inside a hotel room where another man was staying. Police say the victim allegedly saw one of mean carrying a gun.

The commotion caught the attention of other residents at the hotel and the trio fled the scene.

Police say the men jumped a fence and ran into the backyard of a neighbouring home where a father was outside playing with his children.

“As the second victim attempted to protect his children, one of the suspects slashed him with a knife. Another suspect pointed a gun at the second victim,” said police in a news release.

The father was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The trio fled to an awaiting vehicle that was later found in the area of Walnut St. and Ellen Ave. Officers arrested everyone inside the car and weapons were recovered.

Police received information that additional suspects were in a hotel room in the area.

The Niagara police Emergency Task Unit and crisis negotiators were called in and after negotiating with the people in the room, they agreed to surrender themselves to officers.

Carerinena Te, 19, Erika Santha, 32, Donald Hilts, 32, and Shaun Christie, 34, were all arrested and face several charges.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for 42-year-old Cameron Brenton Chiang. He is considered “armed and dangerous” and should not be approached if seen.

Anyone with information on Chiang’s whereabouts is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, ext. 9388.
