Farewell to Reardon’s

First Published:

For nearly a century, it’s been a pillar of Hamilton’s downtown core. But tomorrow will be the last day of business for Reardon’s meats.

The butcher shop and deli has a long and proud history stretching back all the way to 1912. That’s when Frank and Albert Reardon opened their first butcher shop, just down the street from the old city hall in the Hamilton market district.

For years the shop was an institution, and the place to go, for those holiday treats that made the occasion a little more special. Three generations of the family spent their working lives in this shop through good times and bad. But the long struggle of the downtown core, and the changing market of customers who were looking for convenience first finally led the family to decide to close its legacy on a high note.

The Reardons are planning their last day as a kind of thank you and farewell to all of their customers – many of whom have been coming here to Reardon’s for generations as well.
