An extreme cold warning is in effect for Halton with very cold winds expected to sweep across the region.
Environment Canada says temperatures will be between -21 C and -28 C with the wind chill making it feel closer to -30 C.
The weather agency says bitterly cold arctic air combined with light winds will bring extremely cold wind chills to the area.
“This is the coldest air so far this season,” reads the public alert on Environment Canada’s website. “Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.”
The wind chills will level out throughout the day.
Residents are being reminded to dress warmly in layers that can be removed if they get too warm. The outer layer of clothing should also be wind resistant.
Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill so remember to cover up.
