A Beamsville woman who was ticketed for an expired licence plate sticker says she plans to dispute the charge.
Lucy Morris was driving home from work in Hamilton on Monday when she was pulled over for speeding.
The citation she received included a ticket for expired plates, which carries a $110 fine.
She says she told the officer that the province extended the validation period because of COVID-19.
The officer told her because some Service Ontario locations have reopened, she needed to renew her stickers.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, the government has extended the validation period for driver licences, licence plates and Ontario photo cards.
“Documents that expired on or after March 1, 2020 will remain valid and legal past the expiry, until further notice,” said the ministry in an email.
Morris’ plate stickers expired in June 2020.
She is planning on disputing the ticket but says she isn’t happy about having to fight something she shouldn’t have gotten in the first place.
An earlier version of the story said Morris was ticketed by a Hamilton Police officer but a spokesperson says their force did not issue the ticket.
