Elderly man dead, woman in hospital after being found on NOTL road

An elderly man is dead and a woman is in hospital after being found on the side of a road in Niagara-on-the-Lake early this morning.

Niagara Police Const. Philip Gavin said the Hamilton man and woman in their 70s were located shortly before 1 a.m. in the area of Wellington and Bryon streets.

Despite resuscitative efforts, the man in critical condition was pronounced dead.

Gavin said the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Niagara police continue to investigate, but said no foul play is suspected and there is no evidence to suggest they were struck by a car.

Officers are asking anyone in the area with security cameras to review their footage between 11 p.m. Thursday and 12:50 a.m. Friday.
