The summer soaking we experienced this weekend left parts of our region underwater. Environment Canada says more than 7cms of rain fell in the last 2 days, leaving fields in Southern Ontario drenched.
“The biggest problem is the crop is so saturated that it can’t get oxygen to the roots and creates disease within the plant.”
Since May 28th, we’ve had over 202 mm of rain in the Hamilton area, that’s almost 2.5 times the normal amount. Farmers in Southern Ontario are keeping a close eye on weather reports. They need at least a week of dry weather before they can even think about getting back into the fields.
