While most of Canada saw a wave of red yesterday, Hamilton Mountain stayed orange.

Scott Duvall was elected in the riding, taking over for Chris Charlton who did not seek re-election. Duvall has been a councillor for Hamilton’s ward seven since 2006. Duvall says he thinks there’s a lot of confusion out there about what the real issues in Canada are, but he says he’s happy with the results.

“I certainly am delighted, I’m elated that the people again in Hamilton Mountain have enough trust in me and the work that I’ve done and they show me that good work pays off. They’ve given me a lot of great support out there.”

“I’m very happy that we got rid of the Conservative government. I was wishing that the NDP would be a little higher up there with more seats but it is what it is and we all have to move forward and try to get everybody to understand what’s going to happen so all Canadians will be involved.”

As for what happened to the momentum of the NDP throughout the campaign, Duvall says the length of the campaign took away from some of the issues that the party was building on.
