A sigh of relief for many passengers as Delta flights are taking off again. This, after a massive computer outage grounded all their planes around the world this morning. A power outage at Delta’s hub in Atlanta caused a computer glitch at 2:30am. By 9am the ground stop had been lifted and some departures resumed, but the ripple effect continued. By 5pm, more than 650 flights had been cancelled.

In response to the glitch, Delta is waiving change fees for customers ticketed to travel today and have until Friday to rebook their flights. A customer service rep, also said Delta will refund passengers for expenses caused by the disruptions, including hotel accommodations, transportation and meals. Missed concerts and events may also be reimbursed.

The airline says that after the power outage, its backup systems failed too.
