Symptoms of Covid-19 range from mild, flu-like symptoms to more severe symptoms.
Common symptoms include fever, cough, difficulty breathing, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, sore throat, runny nose and diarrhea.
Complications from COVID-19 can include pneumonia, kidney failure and in some cases death.
Most people with common symptoms recover on their own.
If you start to feel symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing you should IMMEDIATELY self-isolate. THis means staying at home and avoiding contact with other people to help prevent the spread of the disease.
Those self-isolating should seek clinical assessment over the phone through Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 or by calling their family doctor’s office.
While in self-isolation, you should drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest and use a humidifier or hot shower to help with a sore throat or cough.
Should you need additional assessment, your family doctor or Telelhealth will direct you to in-person care options.
If you need immediate medical attention call 911 and mention your travel history and symptoms.
Coronavirus is spread mainly from person to person through close contact (in a household, workplace or health care centre).
While there is no vaccine to protect yourself against it, there are actions that can be taken to help prevent its spread.
Make sure to wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer, sneeze and cough into your sleeve, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, avoid contact with sick people and stay at home if you’re sick.
Everyone should be practicing social distancing to reduce their exposure to other people. This means avoiding close contact with others (staying at least 2 meters away from others).
