COVID-19 outbreak declared at second unit of Greater Niagara General hospital

First Published:

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Greater Niagara General site in Niagara Falls has expanded.

Niagara Health has now declared an outbreak in the hospital’s Brock inpatient surgical unit.

The outbreak was called after one patient and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.  Niagara Health says both cases are healthcare-associated.

As a result, the unit is closed to new admissions or transfers, unless medically necessary. Visitors are not permitted and the unit is undergoing enhanced cleaning and disinfection.

Contact tracing is underway for affected patients and staff.

An outbreak was declared at the hospital’s inpatient Unit C last week after two patients and one healthcare worker tested positive for COVID-19.
