Conservatives meet to pick interim leader

First Published:

One day after the Liberals took over government in Ottawa, the federal Conservative caucus meets today to pick an interim leader.

The eight candidates include former cabinet ministers Rob Nicholson, Diane Finley, Rona Ambrose, and Erin O’Toole.

The job carries some perks, including a pay boost of $80,000 a year as well as a car and driver, not to mention the official residence at Stornaway.

Stephen Harper is expected to address the MPs but leave before the vote.  The winner will serve until his permanent successor is chosen.
