Community helps Welland man badly burned in New Brunswick

First Published:

A fundraiser was held this weekend in support of David Lopes — a Welland man who suffered severe burns after his camper caught fire in New Brunswick.

The husband and father of two was burned on the back of his head and several other areas.
Lopes was sleeping in the trailer at pine cone campground in New Brunswick when the fire broke out.

His family says he ran into the camper four times to save his sons, but his wife’s service dog unfortunately perished in the fire.

The family also lost many possessions, his wife suffered from smoke inhalation and burns on her legs and feet. Lopes is still undergoing treatment.

A barbeque was held by friends and his brother-in-law yesterday afternoon at Zehr’s in Welland. The money donated at the barbeque will go towards medical expenses and to support his family.
