27 year old from Zach Collaross from Steubenville, Ohio, has quarterbacked the Tiger-Cats to first place in the CFL East. And now, for the third time in the last 4 weeks, he’s one of the CFL’s top performers of the week. Natalie Marconi reports.
With 400 passing yards and four touchdowns, Zach Collaros was an obvious choice as one of the CFL’s top performers this week, but head coach Kent Austin always expects more. “Zach’s playing well and he’s making good decisions. We can get better.”
What makes Collaros a real commodity isn’t that he’s been consistently reliable, its that he continues to get better. He’s only 229 passing yards behind his total for 2014, but he’s already thrown for 7 more touchdowns. And he has the opportunity to play in 5 more games than he did last year.
His fellow player of the week, Terrell Sinkfield Jr., says what makes Zach the league’s best quarterback is his drive. “He has that fight in him…that dog. Every week he’s out there, he wants it as bad as everybody. He’s a really big competitor and he brings that fight and that fire.”
Collaros feels the same way about Sinkfield, who was abruptly released from the Argos last year and found a new home in Hamilton halfway through the season. It made monday’s victory even sweeter for the 24 year-old Minnesota native, who caught five passes for 110 yards and two majors. ‘Sink’ credits his quarterback for much of his success, and he isn’t afraid to ask Collaros for advice…day or night. “you know, he’ll text me once and a while at night, just to see what he needs to watch. He’s maturing, just like all of us right? Through experience and playing, and I’m happy for him” says Collaros.
