CN Tower closed due to extreme weather

First Published:

The CN Tower has been closed due to the danger of falling ice on Monday.

Officials made the decision after reports of ice breaking off from the tower and smashing into windows of buildings in the area.

It is reported that ice even smashed onto the roof of the adjacent Rogers Centre ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays series opener against the Kansas City Royals.

The Jays are working with the CN Tower and Toronto Police Services to review the possibility of playing tonight’s game.

The tailgate party in Maple Leaf Square has also been cancelled ahead of tonight’s playoff game against the Boston Bruins.

The extent of the damage has yet to be confirmed.
