City of Hamilton confirms first case of bat rabies since 2019

First Published:

The City of Hamilton has confirmed the first positive rapid bat since July 2019.

The bat bit a Hamilton resident, who is now being treated by healthcare providers.

Residents are being reminded to stay away from bats and other animals that can carry rabies, like raccoons and skunks.

The virus is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, usually through a bite, but saliva can also enter through scratches or open wounds.
