The City of Brantford has installed and activated multiple red light cameras at busy intersections with the aim of making local streets safer.
City representatives say the red light program is meant to reduce aggressive driving behaviour and increase awareness of the dangers of running red lights.
The cameras are live at the following six locations:
- Veterans Memorial Parkway and Blackburn Dr.
- Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Henry St.
- Clarence St. South and Icomm Dr.
- Clarence St. South and Dalhousie St.
- Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Morton Ave. East
- Market and Wellington streets
The cameras automatically take two photos of the offending vehicle – one when entering the intersection and one when driving through.
The set fine for running a red light is $325 in Brantford.
The charge is issued to the owner of the vehicle, regardless of who is driving the vehicle at the time of the offence.
