Children left in car in Simcoe mall parking lot

First Published:

Norfolk country OPP responded to a call Friday after a youth and an infant were seen in a vehicle unattended at the Norfolk mall parking lot.

Police say the parents were shopping nearby when a concerned member of the public contacted them.

It was determined that the kids had been left in the car for an extended period of time.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the parents when they returned to their vehicle.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

“The OPP is reminding all parents and caregivers to take your children with you or leave an adult in the vehicle for supervision,” says Joseph Varga, Detachment Commander of the Norfolk County OPP. “Things have and can go wrong, so don’t even take that chance.”

Family and Child Services of St. Thomas and Elgin were subsequently contacted as a result of the incident.
