Verizon lobbying in Canada

American telecommunications giant Verizon is taking another look at Canada, after hiring a consultant to lobby both the federal government and the prime minister’s office.
Verizon has hired Peter Burn, a consultant with Dentons Canada to lobby federal officials about Canada’s “telecommunications policy framework.”
Last summer, Verizon considered but did not enter Canada’s wireless telephone market. Canada’s biggest wireless phone service providers – Bell, Rogers and Telus – spent millions on advertising to oppose allowing foreign competition. But now Verizon appears to be toying with the idea – again – of finding a way to move into Canada.
