As Americans and Canadians alike wait with bated breath to learn the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is making his opinions known.
Ford initially commented on the ties between Ontario, and more broadly Canada, and the United States following Tuesday’s vote.
“The upcoming presidential and congressional elections will have an enormous impact on the future of our province,” he said.
“No matter the political stripe, we’ve maintained a strong economic partnership that has driven economic growth, trade, jobs and investments on both sides of the border. And no matter the outcome in the election, we’re going to continue to work together, Ontario jobs depend on it.”
And today, Ford delivered a speech a the Economic Club of Canada in Ottawa, where he referred to this election as “more consequential than anything else” when it comes to our province’s economy.
The premier says he’s ready to get to work with American partners, and calls on the winner of Tuesday’s election to have the same mindset towards Ontario and Canada.
The Canada-United States-Mexico agreement is going to be up for review in 2026, and provincial officials say Ontario has already begun signing agreements with certain Northern states.
