Two people arrested following St. Catharines drug investigation

Niagara police have arrested two people following an investigation into a St. Catharines man who was wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

On April 30, officers located the man and caught him in the middle of a drug deal.

At the time of his arrest, he was in a car with a woman. Police conducted searches on both individuals and found a collective 6.1 grams of fentanyl and nearly $300 in cash.

Later that day, detectives executed a search warrant at a house in St. Catharines believed to be connected to the pair.

The search resulted in the seizure of an additional 76.2 grams of fentanyl, $2,090 in cash and 100 oxycodone pills.

Garfield Swaby, 51, and Nicole Jean Ley, 45, both of St. Catharines were arrested and are facing charges related to drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Swaby had several outstanding arrest warrants dating back to 2016. They were related to property crimes, drug offences and breaches of release conditions.
