Trump, Zelenskyy hopeful of trilateral talks with Putin to bring end to Russia-Ukraine war

A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House Monday involved talks to end Russian aggression in Ukraine.
A few conditions for a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow appear to be established as Trump hosted Zelenskyy and other European leaders at the White House.
Trump brought up security guarantees and territorial exchanges during the meeting, and said Monday’s meeting could lead to trilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I think we have a good chance of maybe ending it,” said Trump. “He’s, he’s [Putin] expecting my call when we’re finished with this meeting.”
“We supported the idea of the United States, of personally President Trump, to stop this war, to make a diplomatic way of finishing this war,” said Zelenskyy. “And we are ready for a trilateral, as the president said.”
During the Oval Office meeting, Zelenskyy said he is prepared for a sit-down with both Trump and Putin, but maintained that his country will need all the security guarantees it needs, including military personnel, weapons, intelligence, and more in Ukraine.
Trump responded that he would back European security guarantees for Ukraine, though stopped short of committing U.S. troops to the effort.

After taking reporters’ questions, other European leaders arrived at the White House, where Trump believes a security resolution could be agreed on.
This follows Trump’s Alaskan summit with Putin, and the president claims the Russian leader wants to end the war, and is willing to negotiate.
“President Putin agreed that Russia would accept security guarantees for Ukraine,” said Trump, “and this is one of the key points that we need to consider, and we’re going to be considering that at the table also.”
“I think that the European nations are going to take a lot of the burden,” said Trump. “We’re going to help them and we’re going to make it very secure. We also need to discuss the possible exchanges of territory, taking into consideration the current line of contact.”
Another Russian condition that has also been determined is that Moscow does not want Kyiv to be a NATO ally.
NATO’s security general called Monday’s meeting a “breakthrough” in regards to a peace deal.
However, President Emmanuel Macron of France believes that if a trilateral meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy and Putin happens, another European leader should be present in the meeting.
