Over 30 years later, the Toronto Blue Jays made their return to the World Series Friday night with a dominant 11-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1.

In a historic sixth inning, Toronto’s Addison Barger hit the first pinch-hit grand slam ever in a World Series game. Daulton Varsho and Alejandro Kirk also hit two-run homers in the same inning.

The return marks the Blue Jays’ first trip to the Fall Classic since 1993, with Game 2 set for Saturday in Toronto.

Kirk had three of Toronto’s 14 hits. Superstar Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run homer for the Dodgers in the seventh inning.

Prior to the game, Bo Bichette made his return to the Toronto roster following a seven-week absence due to a knee injury. Bichette finished the game with a hit and a walk in two at-bats.

Cito Gaston, former Blue Jays manager – who guided the team to World Series titles in 1992 and ‘93 – had the sellout crowd of 44,353 roaring by throwing the ceremonial first pitch.

Rookie starter Trey Yesavage limited the damage to two earned runs through four innings for Toronto, with Seranthony Domínguez (2-0) was credited with the win after getting four outs in relief.

Dodgers left-hander Blake Snell (3-1) lasted just over five innings, allowing five earned runs.

Games 3 and 4 will be played at Dodger Stadium on Monday and Tuesday.
