The 6th annual Spooky Awards are back this year, giving residents a chance to show off their Halloween spirit — and win one of nine awards for their outdoor displays.

Voting officially opens to the public tonight at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The event began during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way for Niagara residents to have a bit of fun during lockdowns, but it’s since grown into a popular community tradition.

This year, 69 homes have entered the competition. Winners will receive commemorative lawn signs, while first-place winners will also take home a Spooky Awards trophy.

Altogether, nine awards will be handed out across three categories — Judges’ Favourite, Best Effects, and People’s Choice.

Residents can tour the displays using the online “Spooky Map”, with decorations lit nightly through Halloween.

Organizers say the event continues to celebrate creativity and community spirit — with competitors sharing their spooky setups and campaign videos on social media.
