Supie program in Hamilton’s Beasley and Powell Parks temporarily paused

The City of Hamilton temporarily paused the Supie program at Beasley and Powell Parks due to health and safety concerns.
The city announced Monday the temporary pause of the free drop-in programs, but say their programming at Belview and JC Beemer Parks are still running as scheduled.
City staff told CHCH News Wednesday that the programs were paused due to health and safety concerns for program participants and staff.
“We understand how important Rec programming is for children, especially during the summer months, and appreciate the patience of neighbouring families,” said a spokesperson for the City of Hamilton.
The Supie program has been running for nearly 116 years and offers free drop-in programming during the summer for kids at neighbourhood parks across Hamilton.
They often include active games, crafts, circle games and playing with equipment, with changes in programming depending on the weather.
It is unknown when the city plans to resume the program.
Supie programs will also not be offered on Aug. 1, and Aug. 4, – the Civic Day weekend.
