Sovereignty or $61 billion: Trump returns to 51st state rhetoric over so-called Golden Dome defence plan

Mere hours after King Charles delivered the throne speech to open Canada’s Parliament, U.S. President Donald Trump returned to his “51st state” rhetoric on social media.
Trump posted on social media that Canada is welcome to join his so-called ‘Golden Dome’ missile defence plan for $61 billion. He added that it would be “zero dollars” if Canada became the 51st state.
The president also claimed that Canada is “considering” the offer, despite no evidence to support the claim.
The Prime Minister’s Office says Mark Carney has been very clear that Canada is an independent, sovereign nation and will remain so.
