Snow squall warning issued for some parts of the Niagara Region

A volatile storm is bringing heavy winds and snowfall to some parts of the Niagara Region.
Environment Canada issued a snow squall warning shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday, calling for gusting winds of up to 80 km/h and anywhere from 10 to 15 cm of snow.
The alert covers Niagara Falls, Welland and the Southern Niagara Region and could make getting around difficult.
The federal weather agency is warning drivers to heed with caution as the combination of wind and snow will significantly reduce visibility.
“If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” Environment Canada said in the alert.

A similar cautionary message is being put out from the agency for residents who live east of the region affected by Sunday’s alert.
St. Catharines, Grimsby and the Northern Niagara Region are all under a winter weather travel advisory.
It’s expected to last until Sunday evening and is calling for 80 km/h wind gusts and anywhere from five to seven centimetres of snow.
