Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a man fell from an elevated highway in Toronto while he was allegedly fleeing police on Monday night.

The Special Investigations Unit says Toronto police officers responded to a report of an alleged carjacking near the Shops of Don Mills just after 11 p.m.

It says a Rolls-Royce and a BMW fled the scene, and police later blocked a road near the Gardiner Expressway and Spadina Avenue.

The SIU alleges the driver of the BMW fled on foot before falling from the expressway onto Lakeshore Road below.

It says the man was arrested and taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The SIU says three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
