Toronto’s infamous mayor Rob Ford made his much-anticipated appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.
Kimmel referred to Ford as “the greatest gift any talk show host could ask for,” and grilled him over everything from his magician-looking tie, to his crack cocaine use.
“Don’t get me wrong, I am very very happy that you’re here. But why are you here? What good could come from this? Have you ever seen the show?”
The lengthy interview was awkward at times, with Kimmel forcing Ford to watch some of his well-known antics on a monitor and answering questions about his behviour. Ford literally sweated his way through the show; Kimmel even wiped the sweat off his brow.
The mayor did use his appearance to fire shots at his critics – including police chief Bill Blair, councillors and the Toronto media – and tout his record.
Kimmel then wrapped the interview by telling Ford that getting help is “nothing to be ashamed of.”
Ford said he wanted to come on the show to promote Toronto and its film industry, but afterwards was overheard complaining that he had been set up.
