Niagara police say a registered practical nurse was arrested and charged following a child abuse investigation.

On August 5, police responded to an address in Thorold regarding an assault investigation.

Police say officers learned a two-year-old boy with significant medical limitations had sustained serious injuries.

The child was initially transported to a local hospital prior to being taken to an out-of-town centre for advanced and specialized care. The child is now listed in stable condition and remains in hospital.

Police say it was determined a registered practical nurse responsible for the child’s care had deliberately caused the injuries to the child.

Eric Hang, 23, of Port Colborne was arrested on August 8 and is charged with assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and two counts of assault.

Hang has been a registered practical nurse for over a year. Police say they are concerned there may be additional vulnerable victims.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
