President Trump deploys troops in D.C. despite falling crime rates

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump took over the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), ordering federal law enforcement to begin patrolling the city. He cited high crime rates, despite statistics that indicate violent crime has been steadily decreasing since a spike in 2023. It marks the second time this term Trump has deployed the troops, using similar tactics in California just a few months ago.
