Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate and is investigating the circumstances surrounding a police chase in Burlington that led to a 16 and 24-year-old being injured on Tuesday.

According to officials, Halton police received two reports of home invasions – one in Oakville and the other in Milton – in the early morning hours on May 27. They also received information about the suspect vehicle’s description.

Around 4:20 a.m., an officer located a car that matched the description in the area of Appleby Line and Number 2 Side Road. The officer followed the vehicle northbound on Appleby Line, and eventually deployed a tire deflation device.

A short time later, the car crashed into a utility pole.

Police say they arrested five males from the vehicle, and they were taken to hospital. Two of the people – a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old teenager – had serious injuries.

The SIU says three investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

Anyone with information, photos or video is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
