Police arrest two people in connection with ‘unintentional’ shooting in St. Catharines

Niagara police have charged two people from St. Catharines in connection with an “unintentional” shooting that happened on Friday, July 11.

Officers concluded early in their investigation that a woman was unintentionally shot by unknown individuals in a neighbouring apartment.

Police performed first aid on the woman before she was removed from the apartment and taken to an out of region hospital.

The Niagara Regional Police Service obtained a search warrant for the accused individual’s apartment where the firearm was recovered.

Andre Smith, 38 and Anikkita Beckford-Stone, 20 have both been charged with several firearms offences and aggravated assault.

The apartment building is in the area of Ontario Street and St. Paul Street.

The investigation remains ongoing.
