Andalos brand baklava pastries containing pistachios are being recalled over salmonella concerns.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall notice for several Andalos baklava products distributed in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

Most of the recalled food items were sold at a bakery in Montreal and served to customers between June 25 and July 26.

Public health officials say 52 people became ill, and nine were hospitalized after eating contaminated pistachios that were inside the pastries.

Pistachios have been the cause of several salmonella-related recalls over the last two weeks.

Salmonella is a food-borne illness that can cause fever, headache, vomiting, cramps, nausea and diarrhea. Children, pregnant people, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of contacting severe and potentially deadly infections.
