Media buses are a no-go for PC leader Doug Ford

Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford will not have journalists accompanying him on the campaign trail this spring.
Ford’s team said the former Toronto city councilor will not have a media bus follow him throughout the province ahead of the scheduled June 7 election.
Experts say this rare move suggests the Tories are eager to keep Ford’s unpredictability out of the hot seat.
They say this decision is a campaign strategy that limits questions and prevents Ford from making candid, headline worthy remarks, according to the Canadian Press.
This move comes as a surprise as Ontario party leaders traditionally offer media buses in order to make it easier for journalists to cover various daily events.
Spokeswoman Melissa Lantsman says Ford’s events will be broadcast online and his itinerary will be released prior for media outlets to cover the events in-person.
“Most media outlets have shifted to covering events from their office and relying on live feeds. It is in our interest to have as much media coverage as possible and will do everything we can to ensure our events are streamed online to assist in that,” she said in an email.
