Ontario’s Finance Minister expands on 2025 budget’s deficit, future plans

CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram speaks with Ontario’s Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy to explain the details surrounding the province’s 2025 budget.
The Ford government unveiled a record $232 billion budget Thursday that includes increased spending on infrastructure and job creation to help weather the storm of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Bethlenfalvy spoke on the budget’s spending, which is not usually expected from a conservative government, and if it was responsible for the party to spend that much.
Ingram asked the minister about the government’s goal to balance the budget by the 2027-2028 announcement, and how that will come about.
Bethlenfalvy then spoke about the budget’s support of businesses and how the budget plans to mesh with the government’s older promise to build 1.5 million homes by 2031.
