Ontario denies Burlington’s request to intervene on Millcroft Golf Club development

The mayor of Burlington and the Ward 6 councillor say a city request for a special order that could prevent any more controversial development at the Millcroft Golf Club has been denied by the Ontario government.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and council requested for Housing Minister Rob Flack to issue a minister’s zoning order to stop the course’s owner, Millcroft Greens, from redeveloping more of the course.
“We know this isn’t the answer council and the community were hoping for, and we share your deep disappointment. Burlington city council remains steadfast in our view that greenspace is not an appropriate area for development,” reads a joint statement from Meed Ward and Coun. Angelo Bentivegna.

Hundreds of trees at the site have already been cut down to make room for 90 new houses.
The company says it only plans to redevelop parts on the edge of the golf course, but neighbours are still unhappy.
The mayor says the issue will be discussed at a council meeting next month.
