Niagara police say human skeletal remains found in Niagara region ‘suspicious’

Niagara police are investigating a potential homicide after human skeletal remains were recovered in the area near Read Road and Lake Ontario this week.

The Niagara Police Services’ forensic services unit began investigating after a human skull was found Sunday afternoon.

Officers say full human skeletal remains were recovered Wednesday, but due its state of decomposition, detectives are unable to provide details on the person’s identity at this time.

Investigators are working with the coroner’s office and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to assist in identification.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious, and the homicide unit is now overseeing the investigation.

The area where the human remains were found will remain under police guard, while they conduct more searches through the space.
