Niagara Police Services have arrested two men in connection with the armed invasion of a Wainfleet home in March.

Officers say a home near Highway 3 and Shafley Road South was broken into at around 3 a.m. on March 14.

They said an unknown number of people armed with firearms had broken into the home.

Investigators say the people had searched both the inside and outside of the home before leaving the area, but no items of significant value were reported missing.

Police say the group of people had already left the area before officers arrived, driving away in both black and white pickup trucks.

Since then, officers were able to identify and arrest two men involved in the home invasion.

Officers arrested 40-year-old Zhou Ye of Markham on Aug. 21, and charged him with offences including breaking and entering to commit a robbery, forcible confinement and disguising with intent.

Ye was remanded into custody after attending a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse that same day.

Investigators then arrested 40-year-old Xue Mao Gong of Barrie Thursday, and also charged him with the same offences that Ye was charged with.

Gong was remanded into custody after attending a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse that Thursday.

During the investigation, detectives found a significant number of cannabis plants growing on the property — beyond the four plants any of the residents of the homeware licensed to grow — which were then seized.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information can contact police at 905-688-4111, dial option 3, ext. 1008393.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
