NDP meeting tonight to pick interim leader

The NDP national council is expected to meet tonight to pick an interim leader following Jagmeet Singh’s resignation on election night.

The election saw the New Democrats reduced to just seven seats across the country, losing their official party status after being wiped out of historic strongholds.

On election night, longtime party leader Jagmeet Singh announced to his supporters in Burnaby that he would be stepping down once a new leader was chosen.

Two party officials say the NDP caucus met twice last week to discuss who will lead the party until a leadership race can be finalized.
