A man was injured and sent to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after a shooting near King Street West and Hess Street Sunday night.

Hamilton police told CHCH News that at around 10:30 p.m., they were called to the area of King Street West between Caroline and Hess Streets where they found a man injured.

Officers said a 27-year-old man was injured in the area in front of the Meltwich Food Co., on King Street West.

The man then walked down the street into the Big Bee Food Mart where he reported his injuries and called police to the area.

Const. Trevor McKenna told CHCH News that witnesses reported hearing a loud bang or a pop, meaning there was reportedly only one shot, which is consistent with the single gunshot injury.

There may have been some kind of fight beforehand, but that’s all still being investigated.

No weapon has been recovered just yet, and the relationship between the suspect and the victim is still being determined.

Investigators are currently looking into details surrounding the suspect in the shooting.

Previously, Hamilton police said they were looking for a Black man with a thin build, between the ages of 19 and 24, who was wearing a black Tiger Cats football toque, a grey hoodie, a Red Cross body satchel, black pants, a white belt, and black shoes with a white sole.

Detectives told CHCH News that this suspect description, “is no longer accurate on this.”

CHCH News has reached out to police to get an updated description of a possible suspect or suspects involved in the shooting.

Police held the scene between Hess and Caroline Streets overnight while they processed the evidence, but reopened the roads at around 2:30 a.m.

This marks Hamilton’s 17th shooting since the year began.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
