Man charged in Smithville homicide also facing child porn offence

Niagara police have charged a man involved in the murder of a Smithville woman with child porn related offences.

Cathy Prosje, 62, was found dead in her Smithville home on April 26, 2024.

Joseph Villneff, 43, of Smithville was originally charged in October 2024 with first degree murder. He is now facing more charges following an internet child exploitation investigation.

Villneff is being charged with the following:

• Possession of Child Pornography – Contrary to S. 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code
• Voyeurism – Contrary to S. 162(1) of the Criminal Code
