Inquest launched into death of man shot by Niagara police

The Ontario government has announced that an inquest will be held into the death of a man shot and killed by Niagara police in 2021.

Martin Gordyn, 27, died on Jan. 5, 2021 following an interaction with Niagara police. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest into his death is mandatory.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Gorydn’s death. The jury may also make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
