How the Israel-Palestine conflict began decades ago

The Hamas attack on Israel on Saturday is the latest in 75 years of animosity between Israel and the Palestinians.

In 1947, after World War II, with so many Jewish people dispersed around the world, the U.N. began the process to divide the region into Arab and Jewish states.

The State of Israel was created the next year, and conflict followed shortly thereafter.

The first post-WWII Arab-Israeli war started in 1948, which displaced 750,000 Palestinians, but Israelis called the region home centuries ago and note they were pushed out first.
