The inquiry into the Red Hill Parkway was called after numerous accidents on the roadway including fatalities. There was also a safety report on the lack of friction on the parkway that was given to the city but mislaid for years.

Highway engineer Ludomir Uzarowski testified today that he was frustrated with the city of Hamilton’s response to his concerns about the Red Hill Parkway.

Uzarowski is a pavement and materials engineer with Golder engineering consulting firm hired by the city of Hamilton.

Uzarowski told the inquiry he provided the city with, “recommendations, contractors’ costs, anything I could do. The city decided not to follow.”

The inquiry was called to look into a report that was written on safety concerns on the parkway after it opened in 2007 but was only made public years later.

The city’s lawyer questioned whether Uzarowski reported his safety concerns. Uzarowski maintained the city was driving the safety concerns and he offered the city options.

“I did whatever I could in my opinion and the city opted not to take my advice,” Uzarowski said.

The inquiry follows hundreds of accidents on the highway, including four fatalities.
