Hamilton police seize over $4.5M worth of cannabis destined for U.S.

A Hamilton man is facing drug charges after police seized over $4.5 million worth of cannabis destined for the United States.
Police were called about a suspicious shipment being loaded onto a transport truck in an industrial area in Stoney Creek on Monday afternoon.
Officers discovered “processed cannabis” hidden inside the shipment.
A search warrant was executed on both the warehouse and transport truck. Officers seized about 296 kilograms of cannabis.
Police say the cannabis was hidden inside sand blasting bags and stacked on skids, with the shipment destined for the state of Illinois.
“Based on the level of sophistication used to conceal the cannabis and the method used to transport it across the border police believe members of organized crime to be involved,” said Det.-Sgt. Jason Cattle, with the vice and drug unit.
“The amount of drugs seized and the method used to avoid detection at the US border is consistent with high-level drug importing and exporting.”
The drugs seized are estimated to be worth more than $4.5 million.
Eric Hewitt Grewar, 56, has been charged with unlawfully possessing cannabis for the purpose of exporting, possession cannabis for the purpose of distributing it and fail to comply with probation.
