Hamilton police have made a second arrest in connection to the murder of Harsimrat Randhawa.

Randhawa, a 21-year-old Mohawk College student, was shot and killed while waiting near a bus stop at the intersection of Upper James Street and South Bend Road in April.

Police determined she was an innocent bystander, who was struck by a stray bullet that was fired in a dispute between the occupants of at least three nearby vehicles.

On Aug. 5, police announced they arrested and charged 32-year-old Jerdaine Foster of Niagara Falls with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Investigators now say they’ve arrested a second person in relation to Randhawa’s death: 26-year-old Obiesea Okafor. He was arrested in North York, transported back to Hamilton and charged with three counts of attempted murder.

Police say their investigation is still ongoing, and detectives will continue to pursue all possible leads to identify and arrest those involved in Randhawa’s murder.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Alex Buck at 905-546-4123. To provide information anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
