Police have arrested two people and seized a firearm after a brief standoff Wednesday morning in downtown Hamilton.

Officers say they found two wanted people around 11:30 a.m. at an apartment building near James Street South and Duke Street.

Police say they were able to negotiate a safe arrest of each person and no one was injured.

Investigators carried out a search warrant at the apartment, which led to them finding an illegal firearm.

A 36-year-old man with no fixed address and a 36-year-old woman from Hamilton are now scheduled to appear at a courthouse on charges related to firearms and illegal drug possession.
