Following a request from the organizers of the Juno Awards, Hamilton City Councilor Cameron Kroetsch will be putting forward a motion to extend the hours businesses downtown can sell liquor.

The motion is expected to be brought forward to council on Wednesday, where City Hall will decide if they will allow the temporary change or not.

The motion will apply to businesses in and around the TD Coliseum, where the awards are being held, and to those hosting events for the awards.

However, it would exclude take-out purchases of alcoholic beverages, even if purchased with food.

Businesses will need to apply for the exemption if the motion is passed and will need to prove they meet the criteria.

Applicants will also be asked to stagger closures to avoid “spill-out.”

The Juno Awards ceremony will be held at the newly renovated TD Coliseum on Mar. 29, 2025.

The motion would apply to all of Juno week (the week leading up to the ceremony) from Mar. 26 through the 29.
