Hamilton man facing charges after officers injured during arrest

A Hamilton man is facing multiple charges after an arrest left two police officers with injuries.

Police say they responded to the area of James St. N and Barton St. E Saturday night after receiving several calls about garbage cans on fire in multiple locations.

Two officer chased a man down an alley and attempted to arrest him.

The man then repeatedly hit them with a metal pole.

Police say the officers were able to complete the arrest and were later treated for minor injuries.

25-year-old John Michael Espiritu has been charged with arson, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of assaulting a Peace Officer with a weapon.
